At Oaklands we like to engage the children in a variety of extra-curricular clubs and activities. To ensure that all children can access our clubs we offer two approaches.
Staff run clubs
At various points within the school year, staff will offer clubs to children at Oaklands, these may be over a four week period or up to a full year. Clubs may run before school, at lunchtime or after school. As staff are offering their free time to run these clubs we ask that once the children have signed up that they show a full commitment to attending. Spaces are often limited and we like to teach children the responsibility of commitment and time. Teachers will seek pupil interest in school for the clubs and parents do need to register their child to attend unless a letter has come home requesting permission. This forms part of our ethos for building pupil's independence and resilience.
In 2019/2020 Oaklands will have a sports apprentice. This will further enhance our sports offering, increase the number of activities that we can offer and give us the opportunity to maximise our participation rates to reach our goal of getting every single child fit, active and engaged within a club.
A sample of the clubs that we run are below but a full breakdown of clubs, timings and age boundaries are sent out at the start of each term. The majority of our school-run clubs are free for the children to attend though there may a cost for materials.
Clubs run by external operators
We also invite local organisations to run clubs after school and at lunchtimes for the children, this gives the children the opportunity to experience expert levels of coaching and tuition in an environment that they are comfortable in. Currently we work with.
