Welcome to Year 6 – Hawthorne

Learning Update

In Literacy, we have been studying the book The Promise. It is a story about helping take care of your local environment. We have explored figurative language such as simile, metaphor, and personification, as well as covered grammar concepts including determiners, adverbials, and clauses.

In Maths, we have been learning about measures and how to convert between them, e.g., 3.4 L = 3400 ml and 150 cm = 1.5 m.

In Science, we have investigated questions such as: Will children with lower resting heart rates be faster sprinters? We designed and carried out the experiment, and we will analyse the results next week.

In PE, we have been dancing and playing football. We have focused on the best techniques for passing, shooting, and dribbling so far.

In Music, we have been learning about different time signatures and creating our own rhythms.

Coming up…

  • We will write stories based on the book The Promise in Literacy.
  • In Maths, we will start learning about ratio.
  • In Science, we will plot our data in graphs.
  • In Computing, we will look at data sets and how to filter them.
