Welcome to Year 6 – Hawthorne

Learning Update
Throughout this term, the students have made great progress in various subjects. They have embraced new challenges, from exploring mathematical concepts to delving into creative writing. Our science projects, particularly the hands-on experiments, have sparked their curiosity and fostered a collaborative spirit among peers. Additionally, the recent class assembly showcased their creativity and talent, and I was thrilled to see so many parents attending to support our young artists.
I wish everyone a happy and healthy break.
Literacy:
We have been studying the book Windrush Child. It is a story about one of the thousands of Caribbean citizens who came to live and work in the UK after WWII. We have explored using brackets for parenthesis as well as covering grammar concepts such as semicolons, commas, and conjunctions.
Maths:
We have been learning about ratio and the relationship between two numbers. We have learned that this can be additive or multiplicative.
Science:
We have concluded our investigation into whether children with lower resting heart rates are faster sprinters. We collected our data and plotted it in a line graph. Our findings showed no correlation.
PE:
We have continued learning football skills, focusing on utilising space to gain ground on the opposition.
DT:
We have been looking at processed foods and exactly what goes into the food we eat!
Coming up…
- Literacy: We will learn about the Windrush generation and plan a monument to them.
- Maths: We will look at ratio recipe problems.
- Science: We will suggest further investigations.
- DT: We will make some unprocessed food.
