Welcome to Maple
Learning Update
This week in Maple Class, we have been exploring the theme "Who Am I?" through a variety of fun and engaging activities that help children learn about themselves, their families, and their community.
Facial Features and Self-Portraits
Children have been looking closely at their own facial features using mirrors and creating self-portraits. This helps them to develop observation skills and build self-awareness. We have also shared pictures of the children and staff to celebrate our unique identities.
Clothing and Dressing Up
We have been learning the names of different types of clothing and talking about what clothes we choose to wear. Dressing up has been a favourite activity, allowing children to express themselves and explore different roles.
Counting and Matching: It’s Me 1, 2, 3 (WR Step 1)
In our maths work, children have been matching number cards to items of clothing or objects, reinforcing counting skills and number recognition. Activities include:
- Matching 1, 2, or 3 items to corresponding number cards
- Singing and counting along with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive (link: Little Wandle Foundations)
Storytime and Role Play
We enjoyed a firework-themed story, which inspired creative play and discussions. Role play scenarios, such as imagining being wolves from Little Red Riding Hood, encourage children to think about feelings, choices, and language use.
