Welcome to Year 6 – Hawthorne
Mr Butler
Learning Update
In Literacy, we have been studying the book Windrush Child. It is a story about one of the thousands of Caribbean citizens who came to live and work in the UK after WWII. We have researched real passengers and will design monuments to honour them.
In Maths, we have been learning about algebra and the concept of using letters to represent unknown values. We have explored one- and two-step function machines.
In Science, we have started looking at electricity and circuits. We have discussed the differences between mains-powered and battery-powered items.
In PE, we have started practising tag rugby. We have learned about utilising space to gain ground on the opposition.
In DT, we have been studying bridges and how they can be strengthened.
Coming up…
- In Literacy, we will write appeals to the council to honour the Windrush generation.
- In Maths, we will work on algebra problems.
- In Science, we will test different electrical components.
- In DT, we will design and create bridges!
