Learning Update

Literacy
We have started a new book called The First Drawing, linking to our History topic of The Stone Age. The children have been able to make links to their learning about The Stone Age, identifying similarities and differences between themselves and Stone Age Boy from the story. They have written diary entries, pretending to be Stone Age Boy, as well as completed storyboard activities to help with sequencing the order of events in the story. The children have also created their own cave art, enriching their understanding of Stone Age culture and creativity.

Maths
In Maths, the children have been focusing on adding and subtracting across 10s and 100s, building on their previous learning of place value. They have recognised patterns in the way numbers change when working with 1-, 2-, and 3-digit numbers. Specific number rules such as "there are 10 ones in 1 ten" and "there are 10 tens in 1 hundred" have been explored to support their calculations and deepen conceptual understanding.

Driver Project
Our Driver topic this term is Through the Ages. We have completed learning about The Stone Age in History, considering what human life was like, the types of homes and settlements humans built—including Stonehenge—and reflecting on how human life differs in today’s society. In Art, linking to this topic, children have made their own clay pots inspired by designs used by the "Beaker Folk" during this period. In Geography, children have been using maps to locate continents and countries, as well as practising four-figure grid references.

Looking Ahead
After half term, we will be starting a new Literacy book called The Tear Thief. We will also begin new PE topics, which are gymnastics and ball skills. In History, we will start learning about The Bronze Age, exploring how human life had developed further after the end of The Stone Age.
