Oaklands fundraising committee is now established with a core committee who are working hard to raise funds for the school.
2014 proved to be a busy but successful year for Oakland’s Fundraising Committee.
Cake sales were held throughout the year, attracting fantastic support from the talented bakers amongst our parents and from those who bought our wares.
Following on from the popularity of 2013’s Winter Ball, we hosted both a Spring Disco and Autumn Disco which were well attended and allowed the children and teachers alike to showcase their moves on the dance floor.
Towards the end of March we put on a new event, Oakland’s Family Prize Bingo Evening, with the specific aim of raising sufficient funding to purchase sports equipment and professional team kits for those representing the school at local inter-school fixtures. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses who donated the prizes, the work of our host and bingo caller Nick, pizza, hotdogs and a licensed bar, a great time was had by all. Furthermore we smashed our target raising £450.
Though the weather was unkind to us in July (blazing heat whilst we set up gazebos on the top paddock, followed by torrential rain forcing us to pack up and relocate indoors the following morning), the school community turned out in force undaunted by the downpours to ensure our Summer BBQ and Fun Day lived up to it’s name. We were thoroughly entertained by drama workshops, gymnastic displays and a judo demonstration. The number of prizes on offer ensured record ticket sales for the grand raffle and, despite the fact that the waterlogged assault course will have to wait another year to be tackled by those brave enough, there were plenty of stalls and games to keep everyone busy. The event raised over £2,500.
Moving on to the Autumn term, the school community supporting us through easyfundraising continued to grow. More details can be found by visiting www.easyfundraising.org.uk. Parents also donated unwanted clothing to through the Bags 2 School collection. We held a Christmas Movie night, this time offering a choice of movies and a light picnic tea to ensure no one’s viewing was ruined by hunger pangs.
Our final event of the year was a Christmas Family Fair, complete with a magical grotto resided over by Father Christmas and a sack of gifts for those who made the journey to the North Pole. Plenty of festive fun was on offer and the opportunity to get involved in a variety of seasonal craft activities, whilst indulging in mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine. The children enjoyed some retail therapy in the Kid’s Market where they were able to select and gift wrap presents for parents and grandparents. In conjunction with the separate raffle to win a Lego Advent calendar, we raised over £1,500. This money, along with that raised throughout the year, will be used to invest in IT equipment to enrich the learning experience of all the pupils attending Oakland’s Primary School.
Fundraising Events in 2015
Following our first meeting, the Fundraising Committee are already beginning to plan events for the year ahead. We have a cake sale planned for Thursday 12th February and, amongst other ideas, will be looking to organise another Family Prize Bingo Night this side of Easter.
We hope this year to raise money to develop our outdoor learning areas and to purchase resources necessary to support the Forest Schools philosophy as the school move towards accreditation.
